Wiper blades are one of those items most often overlooked until we need to use them. Taking care of our wiper blades will help get the maximum life out of them.
Spring time is the time when there are lots of thunderstorms and rain showers. We will go most of the winter using them off and on during sleet and snow. Or just wiping off the melted frost
I guess it depends on your geographical location but the wiper blades usually don't get a workout until spring time when those nasty thunderstorms hit. Rain drops coming down and they seem like the size of golf balls. No, I'm not talking about hail. Want the best wiper blades for your car? Must try our refillable windshield wipers, money back guaranteed better than any car wipers you have tried.
Have you ever been in that situation when you turn on your wipers and it sounds like a piece of chalk screeching across the board? It's raining like cats and dogs and you can barely see because there is hardly any rubber left on your wipers.
You say to yourself; gee, I just had them replaced 6 months ago. You probably did last fall.
I try to replace my wiper blades once a year. I usually can get a year out of standard over the counter wiper blades; if I take care of them. I have run wiper blades up to two years without replacing them.
Here is a tip to keep in mind that will help you get the most out of your wiper blades:
o Ice and cold weather is one of the hardest elements on wiper blades. Winter time is usually the time when new wiper blades become defective.
Not because they are defective from the factory but because we get in a hurry and don't chip the ice away from the blades when we are scraping our windshields in the morning.
Ice and frost cause the blades to freeze to the windshield. Nine times out of ten we are in a hurry to get to work in the morning so we either pull the blades away from the windshield to free them or we use the wiper motor to break them loose. This is very hard on the blades; eventually the blades will either tear or pull away from the frame.
Here is what you can do to prevent this from happening:
o Get up earlier so you have time to start your car in the morning and let it warm up.
o Let the defroster run a while before you decide to turn the wiper motor on.
o While scraping your windshield; use your ice scraper to lightly scrape into the blades until they are free from the windshield. The blades will free up a lot easier if the defroster has been running for some time.
o If you have a lot of ice build-up on your blades, do not try to peel the ice off the blades, this may cause the blade to tear; instead, try to flex the blades back and forth to break up the ice build up, eventually as the windshield gets warmer the ice will fall off easier if it is broke up in little chunks.
By taking care of your wiper blades during the winter, they will be a lot more effective come spring time.
I suggest you inspect your blades and replace them if needed every fall. This way you will be prepared when the winter and cold hit your area. By applying the tips above you should be confident in your wiper blades performance come spring.
